Viki was originally created as a class project, by Razmig Hovaghimian and co founders Changseong Ho and Jiwon Moon.

it was conceived as a language learning tool that soon evolved into what we all now know as the global site where millions of people discover, watch and subtitle shows.

Viki ‘s name is a play on the words wiki and video. We can see how the community of members, volunteers and fans have contributed to the overall friendly feel of the company as an entity.


It’s said that viki removes the language and the cultural barriers that stand between entertainment and fans. The truth be told, viki is a great resource for people around the globe that crave a new wave of media.

In the above image, you can see how the language learning tool operates. First, pick a show that is available for the Language mode, turn on language mode and you will see the subtitles tracks.

You can now mouse over the Korean & Chinese subtitles and click on a particular word to get its definition as well as pronunciation in your preferred subtitle language. You will also notice that the video is paused when you move your mouse over the subtitles, this allows you to easily select the word you want without having to pause at the right time. This feature is awesome!
