Between cities | Avicii’s interview

Between cities | Avicii’s interview

We had a chance to catch AVICII for a short interview during Austin City Limits.

1-Who are some people who inspire you?

Plenty of different artists. I grew up with everything from Ray Charles to Kiss, so maybe that’s where my

interest started. In electronic music, I really liked listening to Daft Punk even before I knew to call it House Music, and then went on to a lot of Eric Prydtz, Steve Angelo, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Laidback Luke. I’ve learnt a lot from them, and they have all influenced me.

2-You travel a lot, how do you survive the tours, any particular routine or how do you relax?

When I’m touring I feel I’m mostly in and out of hotel rooms, venues and restaurants.

I rarely get to experience the cities I go to properly. I also have to make time doing my pre-gig routines and deciding on what tracks I want to bring, making sure I have all my things in order.

3-What is in your playlist, ipod,or music player?

A lot of new music for my sets. Whenever I hear music it feels like I’m working as I listen to music differently today – always looking for inspiration. So when I’m off I usually want to relax and not listen to my iPod.

4-What song are you the most proud of?

Hard to say. All songs are different, and I like them all in different ways. I’m very proud of the collaborations I’ve done, as well as the tracks that obviously have become big and well appreciated by others. I think that for me trying to pick what song I’m proudest of is a little like a dad trying to pick which of his children he’s proudest of.

5-What’s next for AVICII, new release, goals, plans, collaborations, etc?

I’m working on a couple of things, so stay tuned for new releases. I’m hoping I’ll be doing what I’m doing right now for a long time ahead. i love the mix between being on tour and being in the studio. My manager won’t let me say too much, but we’re ending our big world tour in early January, but before then we’re doing gigs in South America, Australia, Asia, North America and Europe! After that it’s vacation and lots of studio time.

Another great group at ACL was Sonambulo. Their Afro-Hispanic music made the audience dance and enjoy during their performance at Austin City Limits Festival.

This was their first trip to Austin but I’m sure they will be back because people don’t lie and when they’re having fun the obvious question is when and where can we get more of this group. Their authentic beats make old and young move to the music, disregarding the heat and the crowdiness of the place. We bring you an exclusive interview with Daniel Cuenca member of Sonambulo.

Lera Lynn

Country singer-songwriter, named “Best American Artist” at Athens 2011 Flagpole Music Awards. Lynn’s collection of songs is am inventory of past experiences, as well as artistic challenges in her pursuits and hopes for the future.

“Whiskey” is one of her oldest songs, a portrayal of a young girl trying to cope in an environment of addiction and denial.
Lynn started the year releasing two new songs, “Ring of Fire” and “Don’t Make me wait” an original tune. Both can be found at

In past reviews she has been called in “ a steady command of her craft” “ a subtly smoldering intensity that instantly captivates”

In this year ACL fest we’re personally interviewing Lera Lynn for a closer look into her music.

Sonambulo means Sleepwalker and we covered the group’s performance on Zilker stage on Saturday the 13th at 2:30.

The audience loved their “psico-tropical” rhtyms, a fusion of traditional African and modern Latin American beats. From the side of the stage to the end of the covered portion of Zilker stage people from all age groups and across all ethnicities were seen enjoying the group’s performance. The crowd was a good mixture of people dancing and just chilling to the tunes. One couldn’t help but enjoy the contagious energy of the vocals and rhytms. Flags and hats were all present but the vibe of the venue could be felt from far away.

Austin is well know for its music and music festivals, music makes us happy and music helps to put Austin on the map; hence the reason why people call Austin the Live Music Capital of the World®

acl7

This year we attended Austin City Limits ACL, an annual three day music festival at the city’s cental public park, Zilker park. ACL brings more than 130 acts from all over the world to play rock, country, indie, electronic, etc on eight stages.

Austin TexasZilker Park Oct 12-14

acl8

From the beginning of the day people start arriving to the park, like an ant formation people gather around the streets and sidewalks surrounding Zilker park. Finding parking can be quite a difficult task if one arrives afternoon, but since we needed to cover the festival since early we arrived first thing in the morning and parking was not bad at all.

Big Gigantic

Everyone is all so enthusiastic to be attending the fest, families, couples and friends all get together for one weekend in October and plan on attending this musical nirvana. Some people bring tents, lawn chairs and the all so needed long pole to mark their camp.acl5

At the beginning of the fest I was quite unsure about the purpose of this element but the more and more I kept on seeing it around it became clear that it was more than just a decorative element but a much needed one. The park gets packed and I mean packed, try 70,000 people or so.Big Gigantic

It’s virtually impossible to find someone at night unless one has divided one of this ingenious poles with flags, decorations, knick-knacks on them to make them unique.

Things would be easier if the cell phone reception but as luck would have its way, poor to say the least. One can no count on a message getting through but who cares anyway, here we are ready to have fun and cover this fun experience for all of our readers and the fans of the many bands here.acl9

We’ll bring you interview and images from the fest in the next set of articles.
