London Fashion Week

The collection references the style and pursuits of the first female aviators. Among a selected group of editors, fashinistas and style concious people the collection was unveiled at the Portico Room in Somerset House during London Fashion Week SS13.

FLIGHT, takes a spin on a militant quilted style. The Coat, Jacket and Bomber are fitted and ribbed and inspired by European combat pilots. The lightweight component of this ready-to-wear collection is done by nylon complemented by cotton paneling giving it a almost iridescent quality.

The show beggings with aerial music playing int the background, almost like a world war II movie, the sounds of the planes diving and menuvering sounded all too realistic. The show was a hit, a small audience but a definetely a well received collection of fashionable and utilitarian wardrobe. The backpacks and handbags were also a big hit among the crowd. Seems that the ready to wear with a flare of vintage military inspiration applied to new materials was a total success. Expect to see more of these trends on the stores as the people really like the inspiration and color palette for SS13.

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week takes place biannually and it features established designers such as Burberry, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood as well as emerging talent sponsored by Topshop.

LFW is one of the highest profile fashion events int he world and it’s one of the ‘Big Four’ international catwalk shows with the most influence.

The event is organixed by the British Fashion Council and it’s sponsored by brands such as Vodafone, Canon, Mercedes-Benz, American Express, Topshop, The May Fair Hotel, MAC, Vitaminwater, etc.

The following took place in London Sept 13th-18th 2012

–The Courtyard early in the morning– Before the shows begin, people prepare around the grounds. Make up artist and Hair stylist arrive early to do their magic and make everybody more beautiful than they already are. Photographers also get to Somerset early, they must mark up and be ready when the shows begin. Of course, the people at Somerset are there, polite and hard working, they all look and act so professional. There are the door people, always making sure everyone has the right credentials to go in and out of the buildings. It’s amazing that so many different people get together to appreciate the one thing in common, FASHION. There are Magazine editors, Fashion Stylists, Buyers, Bloggers and friends of the House, among the celebrities attending the Fashion Shows. It’s all so surreal and at the same time.

Everyone is working, prepping and preparing for the days ahead. People are picking up their credentials and doing pre- coverage of the event.

The place is peaceful with a glance of what’s about to change in the next day or so. Guards are all holding their post, each at the entrance of the many rooms and always very respectful and attentive.

The courtyard transforms into a hub for the Fashion world.

Pictures don’t do justice to the amount of work that goes on days prior to the event. The coordination and execution of the details is just perfectly tuned.

Nice area to take a break from the hustlr and bustle of the day.

Days of Fashion

Days of Fashion

Days of Fashion is a recount of what happens in between the much anticipated Fashion Shows, all the designers Catwalks and presentations. A lot go on during those in between moments.

Let me start with the notion that one is covering the event one way or another. So lets say you’re media then one can get access to the convenient room located on the east wing of Somerset and then establish a point of operations. yes, there was wi-fi and it was such a relief not to have to rely on my international cellphone plan to access the web. That can be costly, even if just to check on emails, then to update feeds, status and posts. oh man, one can get broke overnight if not careful.

So, this room is conveniently located in front of the Courtyard Showspace so one doesn’t ever have to miss a show. Next to it, the MAC counter where the very helpful girls were giving essential make up touch ups.

Another great way to spend some free time, if there is any left is to go to Tony & Guy space next to the MAC space also in the east wing. There they host the on site salon service.

If one ever get hungry and time allows it, the convenient caffe in Somerset House can give you a quick fix and solve the hunger issue. I tried the menu one early morning, coffee, tea, cake and sweets, the stuff was good and convenient.
