Sonambulo

Sonambulo

Sonambulo means Sleepwalker and we covered the group’s performance on Zilker stage on Saturday the 13th at 2:30.

The audience loved their “psico-tropical” rhtyms, a fusion of traditional African and modern Latin American beats. From the side of the stage to the end of the covered portion of Zilker stage people from all age groups and across all ethnicities were seen enjoying the group’s performance. The crowd was a good mixture of people dancing and just chilling to the tunes. One couldn’t help but enjoy the contagious energy of the vocals and rhytms. Flags and hats were all present but the vibe of the venue could be felt from far away.

The Capital of Glam

Austin has been called the Live Music Capital of the World due to its music scene, Texas has been called a conservative state since it always seems to be going Republican not matter how many Liberals live in Austin, the state always turns red when the networks predict the elections. The truth about Texas is one big state, that’s for sure.

Sunday October 14th 2012

In the Press Lounge we met with Daniel Cuenca vocalist and member of Sonambulo. The group’s show was on Saturday the 13th in Zilker stage at 2:30pm.

Interview:

Where are you touring after ACL?

Sonambulo We’re going to Aguascalientes in Mexico, to attend a festival for Dia de los Muertos.

What can you tell us about your music and how did you guys get started?

Sonambulo-We started 6 years ago, we had five members of the group then, now we are eleven. The idea was to create music to dance based on traditional beats and fused with modern beats. We are now in the process of recording our second album.

Where are you guys based at?Sonambulo-Costa Rica, this is the first time we come to Austin Texas and to this festival.

What countries have you guys travel to?

SonambuloLast year we traveled to Belguim, Holland, Switzerland, France and Spain.

What part of Spain did you guys visit?

Sonambulo-We visited Galicia.

What plans do you have for the future, after the tour in Mexico, do you plan to tour SouthAmerica?

Sonambulo-We hope to keep getting more contracts in order to continue traveling. We have started a networking web of centroamerican music groups. We have already traveled to Nicaragua and have just gotten invited to El Salvador, Panama and Guatemala. The idea is for our group to go there and other centroamerican groups to come to Costa Rica, it’s a way to create an exchange and creative network. We have met some people from Chole and they are also working on a similar networking project. We would truly love to travel to Argentina also.

What would you like to tell your fans?

Keep dancing, that’s what’s about.

For buyers always on the look out for the newest trends and procuring the most selective stock for their stores this is the ideal venue to secure the stocklists to have for the upcoming season.

We took a break from the catwalks to make sure we could bring you a glance at the amazing talent in London Fashion Week Exhibition.

We looked at Yunos and Eliza exhibit and we were so pleased at the uniqueness and crafmanship of the items on display. Here is a couple of images from our brief encounter.

Presentation

FLIGHT SS13

The collection references the style and pursuits of the first female aviators. Among a selected group of editors, fashinistas and style concious people the collection was unveiled at the Portico Room in Somerset House during London Fashion Week SS13.

FLIGHT, takes a spin on a militant quilted style. The Coat, Jacket and Bomber are fitted and ribbed and inspired by European combat pilots. The lightweight component of this ready-to-wear collection is done by nylon complemented by cotton paneling giving it a almost iridescent quality.

The show beggings with aerial music playing int the background, almost like a world war II movie, the sounds of the planes diving and menuvering sounded all too realistic. The show was a hit, a small audience but a definetely a well received collection of fashionable and utilitarian wardrobe. The backpacks and handbags were also a big hit among the crowd. Seems that the ready to wear with a flare of vintage military inspiration applied to new materials was a total success. Expect to see more of these trends on the stores as the people really like the inspiration and color palette for SS13.

Freelance does not mean Free work.

I got this very interesting offer a few months earlier, the praising made it sound like a fashion spread for a local publication.

I said yeah I’ll do it but I needed to have some questions answered, I’ve been dealing with editors lately and this sounded a little bit strange to me, they usually know what they are looking for and who they need to go to for their spreads and photo stories. After pushing for answers, I was directed to a makeup artist involved in the shoot.

So, I fired out my questions and the answers I got was totally different from the spread story that was the intro into this adventure. It turned out it was for an ad in the publication, my response was I don’t do ad work for free and I turned the offer down.

Who in their right mind would do something like this for free? I know I’m a freelance photographer that does not mean I’ll work for free while you’re paying to put that ad in the pub. I’m not getting any fraction of the sales from your ad work and your not giving those customers that walk through your front door free products and services. How are photographers supposed to make a living doing free work. Rent, photoshop and equipment were not free I had to pay for all those.

Anyways, I thought that was the end of it but earlier this week I saw the ad in the publication. They did get a sucker to do it for free and guess what I know that sucker.

LFW

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week takes place biannually and it features established designers such as Burberry, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood as well as emerging talent sponsored by Topshop.

LFW is one of the highest profile fashion events int he world and it’s one of the ‘Big Four’ international catwalk shows with the most influence.

The event is organixed by the British Fashion Council and it’s sponsored by brands such as Vodafone, Canon, Mercedes-Benz, American Express, Topshop, The May Fair Hotel, MAC, Vitaminwater, etc.

The following took place in London Sept 13th-18th 2012

–The Courtyard early in the morning– Before the shows begin, people prepare around the grounds. Make up artist and Hair stylist arrive early to do their magic and make everybody more beautiful than they already are. Photographers also get to Somerset early, they must mark up and be ready when the shows begin. Of course, the people at Somerset are there, polite and hard working, they all look and act so professional. There are the door people, always making sure everyone has the right credentials to go in and out of the buildings. It’s amazing that so many different people get together to appreciate the one thing in common, FASHION. There are Magazine editors, Fashion Stylists, Buyers, Bloggers and friends of the House, among the celebrities attending the Fashion Shows. It’s all so surreal and at the same time.

Everyone is working, prepping and preparing for the days ahead. People are picking up their credentials and doing pre- coverage of the event.

The place is peaceful with a glance of what’s about to change in the next day or so. Guards are all holding their post, each at the entrance of the many rooms and always very respectful and attentive.

The courtyard transforms into a hub for the Fashion world.

Pictures don’t do justice to the amount of work that goes on days prior to the event. The coordination and execution of the details is just perfectly tuned.

Nice area to take a break from the hustlr and bustle of the day.
